버마 활동가들이 가장 좋아하는 뮤지션이 아닐까 합니다.

U2요 저 그린데이도 알고 그러거든요...

버마 상황이야 늘 좋지 못하지만 최근 군부에 의한 골때리는 선거법 개정등으로 한층더 어수선해졌습니다.

이 노래는 그룹 U2가 버마 민주화 운동의 상징이자 지도자인 아웅산 수지 여사를 위해 바친 노래입니다.

이 앨범은 버마 내에서 판매금치 조치가 내려졌고 U2 역시 버마 입국이 불가능해졌습니다. (버마친구들에게 들었던 이야깁니다.)

버마의 양곤(랑군) 한 복판에서 U2 직접 부르고 아웅산 수지 여사와 NLD(버마민족민주동맹이라고 해석되어 집니다. 그리고 해외의 각 NLD 지부들) 그리고 버마 민주화를 위해 함께 했던 전 세계의 지지자들과 협력자들이 함께 모여 어깨 동무 하고 부르는 날이 왔으면 좋겠습니다.  

요즘은 이 노래가 꼭 버마나 아웅산 수지여사만을 위한 노래가 아니라 우리를 위한 또 전세계에서 다양한 모습으로 인간의 권리를 위해 또 민주주의를 위해 노력하는 모든 이들을 위한 노래라고 생각됩니다.
